CAASPP for Families

Near the conclusion of every school year, students in the following grades take the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) in English Language Arts and Mathematics:

  • 3rd - 8th
  • 11th

Students will also take the California Science Test (CAST) in the following grades:

  • 5th, 8th, and once in high school

In previous years, the results of this assessment were mailed home, but the state has moved to an online reporting system.  To access your child's scores, log in to the VCUSD Student/Parent Portal.  Students have access to this information as well by logging in through their district account.  For more information on the VCUSD Student/Parent Portal, go to this page.

To learn more about your child’s scores, go to the CDE’s new parent web page called Starting Smarter.

Starting Smarter - CAASPP

This site includes:

  • resources to help understand results on the student score reports
  • access to sample test questions and practice tests
  • no-cost resources to support learning
  • a guide for parent-teacher conferences

VCUSD recognizes CAASPP scores as one of many measures in identifying student academic achievement.  These scores are not used for grading purposes or to determine if a student moves on to the next grade level.
