Expanded Learning Programs

About Us

Vallejo Expanded Learning Programs

  • Located at 14 school sites
  • Funded through a California Department of Education After School Education and Safety grant
  • Run from after the school day ends until 6:00 pm every day school is in session..
  • All students at each school are eligible to apply for the program. Priority enrollment is given to homeless and foster youth and students in grades 2nd- 8th in need of an extended school day experience to achieve academic and social-emotional goals.
  • Program size ranges from 80 to 120 students depending on the size of the school’s grant.
  • The goal of the Expanded Learning Program is to provide academic support, a nutritious meal, and to offer other youth development opportunities through enrichment classes and sports. Our enrichment classes are intended to give students an opportunity to get good at something, whether that be ceramics, website design, or dance. We make an effort to include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) learning at all sites and most of our programming includes some career education learning integrated into the enrichment so students have an opportunity to explore careers and college readiness related to their interests.
  • Learning beyond the school day is important and contributes to the overall success of our students. The Expanded Learning Programs are a meaningful strategy in VCUSD efforts to close the opportunity gap.
