Mission Statement

California Clean Energy Jobs Act: Proposition 39 Lighting Project

The California Clean Energy Jobs Act: Proposition 39 is an energy efficiency allocation available to local education agencies (LEAs). It provides funding for planning and installing eligible energy measures, such as energy efficiency upgrades and clean energy generation at schools.

In November 2012, voters approved an initiative that changed California’s corporate income tax code and allocates projected revenue to the General Fund and the Clean Energy Job Creation Fund for five fiscal years, beginning with fiscal year 2013-14.

Eligible LEAs, including county office of education, school districts, charter schools and state special schools can request funding by submitting an energy expenditure plan application to the California Energy Commission.  The Energy Commission approves plans and works with the California Department of Education to distribute funds after plans have been approved.

Staff has submitted an expenditure plan for indoor/outdoor LED lighting upgrades throughout the District.  These upgrades will meet all necessary requirements related to the California Clean Energy Jobs Act: Proposition 39.  The approved application of funding is being modified to add additional improvements and take advantage of higher than expected funding levels.

The scope of work for the project includes replacement of light fixtures in gymnasiums and multi-purpose rooms and some related spaces at all campuses throughout the District.  The project also includes the replacement of exterior building mounted and pole mounted light fixtures at most campuses.  All fixtures will be replaced with energy efficient LED fixtures that will improve light quality and reduce energy use at the schools.
