Vallejo City Unified School District is Awarded the Elementary & Secondary Counseling Grant

 The Vallejo City Unified School District has been awarded  the Elementary & Secondary Counseling Grant entitled: Project Restore.  Project Restore is a three year grant of $1.2 million.  The components of the project consist of the following:

  • Lowering the counselor to student and social worker to student ratios;
  • Full realization of the Best Behavior Comprehensive School-wide Discipline and School Climate Program;
  • Restorative Justice Model refocusing the emphasis within disciplinary processes from punishment to restoring relationships;
  • Deployment of a team of support providers at each site to work with student with multiple and intensive social-emotional/mental health needs;
  • Professional Development training for staff in the Best Behavior model, social-emotional and mental health needs of children and adolescents;
  • Culturally competent instruction and service delivery.


Project Restoreprogram objectives are aligned to the VCUSD goals: to reduce discipline referrals, improve student, teacher, and parent perception of school climate and safety, and increase professional development training for teachers and administrators.


Project Restorewill provide services at four schools - Elsa Widenmann Elementary, Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy, Solano Middle, and Vallejo High School 9th Grade Academy.  The goal is to provide social-emotional and mental health services to students who need them the most - so that all students can be successful in becoming college and career ready.
